The Cottleville Wine Seller house has it's roots deep in Missouri history. Constructed in 1849, the building was erected on Plank Road, now called Highway N. Lorenzo Cottle was the founder of Cottleville. The land was owned by his father, Dr. Warren Cottle. He was the first in the country to build a mill in the early 1800's. You can still find some of the stone throughout old town Cottleville.

In 1849 the nearby metropolis of Saint Louis, with a population of 63,000, was the jumping-off place for Forty-Niners eager to make their fortune in the gold fields of California.

In 1849 the first President from Missouri took his place in the White House. Senator David R. Atchison, the Pro Tem ofthe Senate, was named to fill the vacancy between the resignation of James Polk and the inauguration of Zachary Taylor. Atchison's term lasted only one day--a Sunday--because Taylor refused to be sworn in on the Sabbath for religious reasons.

The historical house has weathered over 160 years of civil and international wars, depressions, political turmoil, and recessions, culminating in its modernization and renovation in 2008.
